I've decided to start sharing some of my favorite songs I listen to each month this year, without repeats from previous months. Some of these songs might be songs I've known about for a while but just recently have been listening to a lot, or they'll be completely new to me. Each song will be posted about one day after the other at the start of each month.

#5 - welcome 2 snakeworld!, By snakeworld!:
Snakeworld! Is an awesome band I found when scouring the internet through their co-lead singer Rhyme Kickflip (shitty kickflips, and they released what I believe is their first album earlier in the month. The opening song, welcome 2 snakeworld, is obviously meant as an introduction to this album, and it's a super fun and pretty short piece. With a guitar simply repeating three descending notes with a lot of power behind them over the drums getting progressively more intricate, Rhyme (I think, or it's Willow) introduces and guides us into the snakeworld!, which is infested with snakes lol. The song kicks into the crazier latter half, and they just scream a bunch and repeat "don't go out tonight" while the instruments bring a super high energy to the whole thing. It's honestly not an insane masterpiece of a work, especially in the vocals, but I think that's a big part of the charm. The main draw really is the rawness in their vocal performance in my opinion, where you can just feel the pure fun and joy they're having making and recording the song, and It honestly just makes me happier than most "happy" songs do, I mean it's really just so silly. This song is from a musical, or musical podcast I guess? I listened to the whole musical recently, but I was introduced to this song near the beginning of the month and it's stuck with me since. Telling the story of a woman's life growing up, where her parents were basically pathological lies. The whole song builds an image of how she was raised to lie her way out of her problems, and it slowly builds with a strong and beautiful piano part towards her near demise and realisation about her and her parents way of life in a way. The bridge is a gentle and soft floaty part that really gives you the feeling that the dishonesty and the family "business" (I'm not completely sure but it felt a lot like a mafia/organized crime kind of deal) were both making it easy to live life how the singer wanted, and being incredibly discomforting to the singer, especially as they had been lying again about who they were for two years in the musical. I'm not sure I have too much to say about this one otherwise, it just paints a very vivid picture and I think that's neat. Very cool :3
#3 - Inarticulation, by Rio Romeo
Inarticulation is a really pretty song that's very romantic, speaking on that completely swept off your feet kind of love. The piano beautifully provides a sort of floaty-falling feeling that carries you through the lyrics, providing most of the rhythm in such a way that highlights various words as the singer tries to find their words. The lyrics really are what carries this song I think, as they throw you through a bunch of rhymes you get the sense that they're really trying and struggling to find and land on those rhymes, even referencing that that's what they're trying to do as they attempt to describe how they feel. The word choice is also truly breathtaking in many ways, and the fact that the singer is actually really quite articulate with how they speak while still droning about how they can't find the right words perfectly exemplifies how indescribable their feelings truly are, that even with all the poeticism going on it's not enough. The way they meander through the tempo also creates this wonderful tension that really pushes and pulls you towards the same feelings the singer is feeling. Great song honestly, very cool.
#2 - WIGGLE, by Black Dresses
As a band Black Dresses can get very uncomfortable with their visceral and harsh sound, and WIGGLE definitely uses aspects of that sound in it's opening, with high pitched unsettling sounds over the repeating "I couldn't go, I couldn't stay" lines said/sang throughout the song. This immediately sets the tone of the rest of the song to be set in this impossible toxic situation, as the song goes silent just before dropping the bass into the rest of the song. As they head into the first half of the first verse, they describe the "wiggling" they're doing, lyrically giving the visual the singer getting suppressed in some way, but still wiggling around almost in defiance. The next part has them pleading and talking negatively about themself desperately, giving the whole verse this perspective of someone who feels they're getting oppressively harmed by someone while also feeling like it's their fault for even being there. After comes a quiet interlude where the vocals get very distant and build towards the line "if I was a killer, I'd just kill me too" which brings us into the chorus. As the instrumentals create an oppressive landscape for the singer, they really cover how they're almost just completely broken, taking on the damage of whoever is deciding to hurt them as they just try to hang on and cling to the hope that they'll eventually get out. The song repeats in a similar fashion, reaching the end where they repeat again the "I couldn't go, I couldn't stay" lines, ending with "I didn't stay" in a very quiet end that feels kind of resolved, but not really in a good way. Overall it leaves you with a kind of empty feeling, like after the intensity of it nothing good really comes, it just hurts (but like in a really good way musically). :3
